This week, we round up research on trust in the media and Black women&#8217;s experiences with the police, along with new studies on how social characteristics affect individual experiences of gaslighting within domestic abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/\">There\u2019s Research on That!<\/a>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/2019\/11\/04\/media-literacy-and-trust-in-the-media\/\">Media Literacy and Trust in the Media<\/a>,&#8221; by <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/people\/allison-steinke\/\">Allison J. Steinke<\/a>. We rounded up social science research on the relationship between media literacy and how likely people are to trust what they read in the news or on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/2019\/11\/07\/sayhername-and-black-womens-experiences-with-police\/\">#SayHerName and Black Women\u2019s Experiences with Police<\/a>,&#8221; by <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/people\/amber-powell\/\">Amber Joy Powell<\/a>.  Powell brings together sociological works that have highlighted Black women\u2019s experiences with police and the racialized and gendered challenges that lie ahead in developing police-community trust. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/\">Discoveries<\/a>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/discoveries\/2019\/11\/05\/the-social-basis-of-psychological-abuse\/\">The Social Basis of Psychological Abuse<\/a>,&#8221; by Jordan Boudreaux. New research in <em>American Sociological Review <\/em>reveals how people who commit domestic abuse mobilize gender stereotypes, racial stereotypes, and victims\u2019 institutional settings in order to manipulate their victims\u2019 sense of reality. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\">Teaching TSP<\/a>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\/2019\/11\/06\/teaching-white-privilege-2\/\">Teaching White Privilege<\/a>,&#8221; by Erika Sanborne. New research in <em>Teaching Sociology<\/em> finds that students\u2019 awareness of white privilege and understanding of racial inequality increased when they were taught in a mixed-race, cooperative learning setting.
