“Immigration, Welfare, and the Role of Race<\/a>,” by Neeraj Rajasekar<\/a>. In light of\u00a0Trump advisor Stephen Miller’s\u00a0plans to bar documented immigrants from citizenship if they use social assistance, we rounded up social science research on race and social assistance in the United States.<\/p>\n “Not so Natural Disasters<\/a>, ” by Erik Kojola<\/a>.\u00a0Hurricanes \u2013 so called natural disasters \u2013 \u00a0are not simply the result of the weather but become \u201cdisasters\u201d because of how society shapes people\u2019s risks and how people prepare, adapt, and respond.<\/p>\n “Policing the Behavior of Minority Girls<\/a>,” by Amber Joy Powell<\/a>. Serena Williams’ recent experiences made us think about how discipling women of color’s behavior starts from a young age.<\/p>\n “Counting Incarceration’s Lives, Lost and Saved<\/a>,” by Ryan Larson<\/a>.
