That&#8217;s one of the reasons\u00a0we&#8217;re so delighted to welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/feminist\/\">Feminist Reflections<\/a> to our\u00a0community pages. <a href=\"http:\/\/gaylesulik.com\/\">Gayle Sulik&#8217;s<\/a> inaugural post offers a thoughtful invitation to a\u00a0new space for engaging in feminist conversations about everyday life, for\u00a0expanding feminist networks, and for celebrating feminist work.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>We need a formal communal setting that is open to intellectual curiosity, the musings of everyday life and the emotions that set their tone, and the exploration of how ideas and knowledge are tied to power and influence. We need to contemplate poverty in the midst of riches, subjectivity and neutrality, public power and the linkages between meaning and power, and the social construction of knowledge (What counts as \u201cknowledge\u201d? Who has\/lacks access? Who gets to create it?). We need to reflect, with a feminist perspective, on our lives as sociologists and human beings.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can learn more about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/inequalitybyinteriordesign.wordpress.com\/\">Tristan Bridges<\/a>,\u00a0another\u00a0regular contributor, in this week&#8217;s fascinating\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/officehours\/2014\/07\/18\/tristan-bridges-on-hybrid-masculinities-and-sexual-aesthetics\/\">Office Hours podcast on masculinities and sexual aesthetics<\/a>. You&#8217;ll\u00a0also find\u00a0such scholars as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.colgate.edu\/facultysearch\/FacultyDirectory\/meika-loe\">Meika Loe<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/class.georgiasouthern.edu\/socianth\/faculty\/\">Trina Smith<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/umaine.edu\/sociology\/faculty-and-staff\/amy-blackstone\/\">Amy Blackstone<\/a>\u00a0on Feminist Reflections. I&#8217;m personally\u00a0excited to welcome Professor Blackstone to\u00a0these pages, since few people have\u00a0taught me more\u00a0about the value and necessity\u00a0of feminist perspectives in sociology. As we&#8217;ve coauthored\u00a0seven pieces, I&#8217;ve felt fortunate to\u00a0engage in the sort of productive back-and-forth that yields lasting insights as well as articles.
