Today the college student who started the hashtag\u00a0is profiled in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2015\/09\/18\/amneh-jafari-istandwithahmed-texas\/72390396\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>USA Today<\/em> article<\/a>. She argues that the response to the hashtag\u00a0shows the power of social media to give voice to the voiceless. Let&#8217;s hope that this will contribute to lasting social change to reduce the racism and Islamaphobia that the arrest illustrate.<\/p>\n<p>Today I came across an example of how a Twitter post led to action, as <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2015\/09\/16\/netflix-responds-to-criticism-changes-its-sexist-description-of-pocahontas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix changed its description of the movie <em>Pochontas<\/em> after a critical tweet<\/a>.
