{"id":193,"date":"2008-10-15T14:38:51","date_gmt":"2008-10-15T20:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/contech\/?p=193"},"modified":"2008-10-15T14:38:51","modified_gmt":"2008-10-15T20:38:51","slug":"women-blogging-more-watching-television-less","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/contech\/2008\/10\/15\/women-blogging-more-watching-television-less\/","title":{"rendered":"Women Blogging More, Watching Television Less"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of one of my current research projects interviewing feminist bloggers, I attended a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/blogher_conference\/conf\/6\/general\/3\">Blogher conference<\/a> over the weekend. \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/\">BlogHer.com<\/a> is a syndicate of 1,500 blogs written by women.\u00a0\u00a0 At the opening session, one of the organizers discussed some interesting stats about women blogging from a recent random sample survey. The survey, conducted in 2008 by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/blogher-compass-partners-2008-social-media-benchmark-study-blogging-mainstream-reliable-fun-advice-a\">Compass Media with Blogher<\/a>, sampled 1,250 female Internet users through a nationally representative panel, and 5,000 visitors to BlogHer&#8217;s network. Here&#8217;s some of what they found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>36.2 million women actively participate in the blogsophere every week (15.1 publishing, 21.1 reading and commenting)?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Women are so passionate about blogging that large percentages of women said they would give something up to keep the blogs they read and\/or write:<\/strong>\n<p><strong> &#8211; 55% would give up alcohol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> &#8211; 50% would give up their PDAs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> &#8211; 42% would give up their i-Pod<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> &#8211; 43% would give up reading the newspaper or magazines<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>More than half of women surveyed consider blogs a reliable source of advice and information<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can download a presentation with more about that survey<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogher.com\/files\/BlogHer.CompassPartners.Social%20Media%20Study.ppt.pdf\"> here.<\/a> One of the things I found most interesting about the opening remarks was that among women who blogging at Blogher, 43% are watching less television to keep up with the blogosphere.\u00a0\u00a0 I find that&#8217;s generally true for me.\u00a0 What about you &#8211; blogging more (including reading more) and watching the tube less?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of one of my current research projects interviewing feminist bloggers, I attended a Blogher conference over the weekend. \u00a0 BlogHer.com is a syndicate of 1,500 blogs written by women.\u00a0\u00a0 At the opening session, one of the organizers discussed some interesting stats about women blogging from a recent random sample survey.
