The complaint focuses on instances of boilerplate descriptions of datasets and instances where scholars are cited, but not quoted. This accusation\u2013the fourth in a series of complaints against Black women at Harvard who study race or social justice\u2013has been amplified by conservative activist <a href=\"https:\/\/manhattan.institute\/person\/christopher-f-rufo\">Christopher Rufo<\/a> as part of a broader campaign against critical race scholarship and DEI efforts. Plagiarism expert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plagiarismtoday.com\/about-plagiarism-today\/about-the-author\/\">Jonathan Bailey<\/a> reviewed the allegations and found no issue. However, Bailey is concerned with the \u201cweaponization of plagiarism\u201d (using allegations of plagiarism to address political or social grievances). In support of Cross, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asanet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/asa-statement-in-defense-of-christina-cross-march-2024.pdf\">ASA denounced the anonymous complaint<\/a>: \u201cThese false claims of plagiarism are a political attack that exploits the gap between the normal scientific process and the public\u2019s understanding of that process.
