Published in\u00a0<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10508-017-0953-1\">Archives of Sexual Behavior<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the study authors\u00a0find that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Americans of all races, religions, and education levels are having less sex than in the past. While in the\u00a01990\u2019s people were having sex about 60 times a year on average, that number dropped by 53 times on average by 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from other factors, such as the rise in depression and declining rates of marriage and cohabitation, the tightening wallets of two-income-families may also be a factor driving this change. As explained by sociologist <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/couples\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepper Schwartz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of University of Washington, a product of the 2008 recession is that both people in partnered couples are more likely to be working. The resulting stress from these economic concerns could be\u00a0behind the overall drop in sexual activity.
