These inquiries often come from white people who, in their attempts\u00a0to be good allies, seek people of colors\u2019 perspectives and analyses regarding tough issues. Such action is often well-intentioned, but it can be taxing on those constantly being asked\u00a0their take, and it can leave some people feeling cornered into playing a &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kazu.org\/post\/who-should-do-hard-work-being-race-ambassador#stream\/0\">race ambassador<\/a>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0role. \u00a0In\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/news_and_politics\/politics\/2016\/12\/the_black_person_s_burden_of_managing_white_emotions_in_the_age_of_trump.html\">candid conversation with\u00a0<em>Slate<\/em><\/a>, sociologist <a href=\"https:\/\/tressiemc.com\/\">Tressie McMillan Cottom<\/a><i>\u00a0<\/i>describes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the emotional labor that these interactions demand from people of color. She said,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBlack people have one primary job: to manage white people\u2019s emotions. Their emotions are high right now and we\u2019re being overtaxed with it. And our various levels of individual privilege circumscribe how much we can push back on managing their emotions.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the inquiries she and other black women receive come from liberal white women reeling in disbelief over the high proportion of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/clinton-couldnt-win-over-white-women\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">white female voters who supported Trump<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Being put in this situation by white friends is a common occurrence for many people of color, and for black women especially. As Cottom describes,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe emails I get from people are epic.
