Framework Convention on Climate Change, the media and presidential candidates have been making a <em>lot<\/em> of small talk about weather. Though there\u2019s nothing new about the issue \u201cclimate change,\u201d and the preceding term \u201cglobal warming,\u201d not everybody is on board. Republican candidates including Donald Trump, Chris Christie, and Ben Carson continue to deny climate change, even as the evidence mounts. Often, these candidates state they don\u2019t place much stock in \u201cscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/climate-change-denial-psychology_56438664e4b045bf3ded5ca5?utm_hp_ref=green&amp;ir=Green&amp;section=green&amp;ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000048\">article<\/a> on Huffington Post discusses this dynamic with help from environmental sociologists <a href=\"http:\/\/sociology.okstate.edu\/faculty-staff-directory\/faculty-directory\/dr-riley-dunlap\">Riley Dunlap<\/a> from OSU and <a href=\"http:\/\/sociology.msu.edu\/faculty\/profile\/mccright-aaron\/\">Aaron McCright<\/a> of MSU. They describe how, particularly among conservative voter bases, people are more likely to seek out information that they agree with while, ignoring what challenges their preexisting ideas. In addition, high-profile skeptics such as political figures can generate an \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/contexts.org\/snowball\">echo chamber<\/a>.\u201d In essence, people hear their beliefs reinforced within their social networks; groups can normalize and strengthen particular beliefs or ideologies by simply listening to each other instead of finding new information.
