It\u2019s an exciting day when a sociologist and a comedian write a book together, and even more so when that book turns into a Netflix series. To be clear, <\/span>Aziz Ansari <\/span><\/a>recently stated that his new series, <\/span>Master of None<\/span><\/i><\/a> (which premiered November 6th on Netflix) is <\/span>not <\/span><\/i>simply <\/span>Modern Romance<\/span><\/i><\/a> (<\/span><\/a>the book he wrote with sociologist <\/span>Eric Klinenberg<\/span><\/a>) on the small screen. However, a recent <\/span>Vogue<\/span><\/i> review highlights how the show incorporates many of the ideas Ansari and Klinenberg present in their book. <\/span><\/p>\n

Master of None<\/span><\/i> is brilliant, insightful, and hilarious, the perfect vehicle for Ansari to animate the ideas and sociological concepts that he wasn\u2019t quite able to make jump off the page earlier this year.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The show explores the dating world of New York City through the main character Dev, a 30-year-old actor. Readers of <\/span>Modern Romance <\/span><\/i>will notice overlaps, including when Dev takes a cue from a study cited in the book\u2019s section, \u201cThe Effects of Non-Boring-Ass Dates,\u201d by flying a date to Nashville. He confronts questions about monogamy when a woman wants to hook up with him to get back at her husband. And he laments that he is not \u201cjust a bubble in a phone\u201d when he is blown off by a potential date.<\/span><\/p>\n
