{"id":360,"date":"2008-11-10T08:16:13","date_gmt":"2008-11-10T14:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/crawler\/?p=360"},"modified":"2008-11-10T08:16:13","modified_gmt":"2008-11-10T14:16:13","slug":"race-relations-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/clippings\/2008\/11\/10\/race-relations-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"race relations transformation(?)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/chi-race-think-bd09nov09,0,2052453.story\">Chicago Tribune<\/a> ran a story yesterday about the potential effects of Tuesday&#8217;s election results titled, &#8220;Transformed by Obama&#8217;s Win &#8212; Has the election of an African-American to the White House shattered stereotypes and changed the way Americans &#8211; black or white &#8211; view each other?&#8221; In addition to interviews with locals in Chicago, the Tribune calls in the sociologists to sort this out in greater detail&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>One sociologist points out the remaining &#8216;structural issues&#8217;&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To be sure, few people said they believe Obama&#8217;s victory will be enough to transform race relations in the United States radically or instantly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are structural issues that need to be addressed,&#8221; said Martin Sanchez-Jankowski, a professor of sociology at the University of <span class=\"taxInlineTagLink\">California<\/span>&#8211; <span class=\"taxInlineTagLink\">Berkeley<\/span>.
