When travelling individually my mother, brother and sister (who all have lighter skin/hair) all get through just fine. The last time I went (2011) the man checking passports who had been moving pretty quickly with the line before I got there, ended up looking between myself and my passport several times before he finally allowed me to proceed through security as normal. My dad gets pulled aside for a “random screening” all the time.

So I’m not sure if Eastern Europe is “white enough” for some people. Maybe my dad and I just look particularly suspicious? haha

Strange, I don’t remember having major press events following the Oklahoma City bombing that assured people that the actions of McVeigh had nothing to do with the values of the White community (or of White Americans themselves).

[sarcasm]Gee… I wonder why no White people felt the need to assure America why White people weren’t all like McVeigh.[/sarcasm]

White (and Christian – in the case of the Boston bombers) get a pass. Everyone else has to rush around and assure all the panicky people that their (racial, ethnic, or religious) group isn’t like the extremists who don’t actually represent the group.

Indeed, whenever there’s an attack in this country, there are people that automatically go to “It’s a Muslim! We gotta bomb Mecca!”

There are plenty of other less aggressive cases of this type of attack directly against Mecca, especially when making a false comparison between Christians (or more specifically Catholics) and Muslims.
