Oh for pete’s sake, no.

The title is: “Are African Americans changing their minds about gay marriage?”

“Minds” is plural, Guest. The graphs and rapid change suggest that the changing trend is not generational, but that actual individuals are changing their minds. Plural. Minds. Individuals changing their opinion.

Don’t look for this offense where it doesn’t exist, it makes us look like ass hats.

That’s nowhere near the point. The plots show that neither group is in consensus. They do show, however, that race is an explanatory variable.

African American seem to be finding Gay marriage more favorable at a similar rate of White Americans. It’s only a few points difference. With the way everyone talks about how African American dislike homosexuality, you’d think it would be a huge difference but it’s not.

It’s an optical illusion. I pasted them into paint (can’t be bothered opening up a real graphics program on my poor little old lappy), lined the year scale up, and the leftmost data points seemed to as well. Mind you, I really think it should have an explicit vertical scale, not merely an implied one.

What’s with the odd exaggerated scale on the “among blacks” chart? 66 there is slightly below 65 on the whites side, and 26 is way below 27. Seems there’s an implied message there too.
