They must think the woman is pretty simple if she cannot find a flat screen tv in her own house. The poor guy is going to have to clean that room himself and use headphones not surround sound speakers or she’ll notice it’s there (insert sarcastic eye roll here).

Seriously, though, I’ve seen ads for buying large TV sets in which the entire premise is that the man and woman in the couple are both entirely on-board with the purchase. That seems a much better basic premise than this.

Agreed. I’m particularly annoyed with the implication that when it comes to women, dishonesty can be rectified by–what else?–giving her stuff. Give her stuff and she’ll be complacent (= seen and not heard = passive and delicate because why would desirable/straight women need to purchase power tools, anyway??). Is this really what we as a society believe constitutes masculinity? Ick!

I think the part that is bugging me the most is the implication that big purchases like a flat screen tv should be hidden from your partner. Encouraging dishonesty really isn’t cool.
