i can’t tell whether or not you’re being stupid on purpose. in some countries the use of the “.” and “,” are the reverse of what is used in the u.s.: comma instead of a decimal, decimal instead of a comma, so 30.000 would become 30,000. although they also have this thing now, it’s called typing the wrong key by accident.

I’m stunned at the sheer number of people here (or more accurately, the sheer number of posts) who seem to think that graduation is simply a matter of personal choice, and that it’s all about the individual.

I am sure for every girl who is like you there are 20 who don’t end up continuing on with their education. Are they just lazy and week minded? I think it is silly to deny that there aren’t factors or barriers that prevent some people from pursuing an education. You’re an exception to the rule. Why not help remove barriers so that others have an easier time accessing and affording education?

Your making a lot of broad generalizations in your post and dragging out every negative stereotype about black males that you can think of. There are plenty of black women who also don’t graduate from high school who are affected by the narrative above. You obviously don’t have much experience with black people (if you even are black) if you think the experience above is representative of all black men or black people.

As a BLACK woman, I say the same. It’s funny, that many of the girls who go off to college have brothers who end up in jail. Society ignores this, or muddies it by saying “well, they are still bitches, and single obese immoral aids infested bitches at that.” The bottom line is that black girls are taught that they could very well clean toilets if they do not pursue education, since no one will take care of them, and black boys have the privilege of standing outside with friends, listening to hip hop, sexually harassing every woman that passes, degrade women, and work for yourself as a drug dealer, live off of the women you have “trapped” into getting pregnant so that you can exploit their resources, bouncing from couch to couch for free, spending all money earned on themselves and calling women golddiggers for demanding any different, and, that list goes on and on.

These are privileges, yes, they lead to an early grave, but privileges nonetheless. I always said black men have more privilege within their communities than white men have in their communities. Whether or not it is “really” a privilege or not, does not make sense. We can say that about slave masters not “really” being privileged because they didn’t get as much sunlight. Within the context of the ghetto, it is TREMENDOUS privilege for black men. They also get to set the tone for how black women are perceived (the exploited backbone they CHOOSE to actively exploit). And liberals LOVE ignoring this reality, and instead arguing that black women either “deserve” this behavior or have it easier. What a joke. It is either the white man or the black woman’s fault.

The truth is Gita, it doesn’t matter what you say or I say about our realities, because “the endangered male of color’s” privileged story and excuses are all that hold weight.

I suggest you take up the issue with sociologists and scientific thinking in general then. If you can only speak from personal experience, that means that clearly you need to brush up on statistics, sociology and vast other array of readings. Personal experience and bias are not examples…

I can only speak from my experiences. I do know that I would not tell someone they were not worth much though. It’s sad how people love to argue with sweeping generalizations but fail to acknowledge that these generalizations, these “trends” are indeed made up of individual stories. Your vague argument is what’s not worth much, sorry to say.
