Welp, typed too fast. That should be “missing swath of self-reports from people under 18 who weren’t polled”, etc. Btw, the percentage of women first raped between ages 11-17 is 29.9%, so I guess that’s the literally missing report percentage from unpolled people? Oh statistics.

I’m not sure if the 12-month statistics are very accurate for this comparison, though. Given that the survey polled people aged 18 and above, that over half the survey sample are over the age of 30, and the statistics from page 25 that say about half the women were first raped before the age of 24, I would suspect there’s a huge missing swath of self-reports from people under 24 who were raped in those 12 months and weren’t polled.

I mean, the lifetime rape statistics in the same tables show that 18.3% of women have been raped in their lifetime (2.1) versus the 1.4% of men raped and 4.8% forced to penetrate (2.2). That really doesn’t sound like “women get raped at the same rate as men” to me.

That prison statistic is awful. There is no doubt that this must be taken seriously by society and the authorities. I don’t believe in punishment for it’s own sake, but if people insist on it, inmates body integrity must be protected or we have to rethink the idea of prison, full stop.

I can’t comment on the stats, but I can say that the treatment that a TYPICAL treatment male victim of rape by a female is roughly as bad as the absolute worst case treatment of a female victim of male rape. [nationally published quotes redacted due to excessive triggering]
