I don't know where you've been shopping, but as someone who pretty much only shops at those stores (21 and petite, so they're the best fitting), that hasn't been my experience at all. It's normally a row of skinny jeans, a row of slim-fit flares, a row of boot cut, and maybe a row of jeggings, and then a row of whatever else they have all together. I've worn mostly flares for the past decade and they're always the EASIEST to find, even with the increased popularity of skinny jeans. And American Eagle says those two styles are tied for their most popular.

It is sort of odd that "relaxed fit" girls' jeans have started to be called "boyfriend" jeans. Is the implication supposed to be that if a girl is wearing non-skinny jeans, she's supposed to look like she's wearing boy's jeans? I'm not sure whether that implication is worse for girls or guys, but I'm thinking guys (there are very few guys whose jeans would fit very petite girls, especially in such a not-skinny-but-still-fitted way).

Funny thing: When my boyfriend and I started opening our presents to each other we found that we both gave each other HexBug Larva (mine is red and his is black). They are so much fun and I'm glad that the makers of HexBugs don't market it a totally as for boys because they are a lot of fun even for grown ups.

I've made an effort to buy my nephew toys that aren't too gendered, blocks, playdo, stuffed animals, etc. The only one that I've bought him that is explicitly marketed for boys I would also have bought for a niece, it's a shape and color learning toy that looks like a car that you "fix" with a little wrench and screwdriver (my dad is a mechanic so it's a "fix cars with Poppa" toy not a "you are a boy and should like cars" toy). Should me brother and his wife have a girl at some point I plan on giving her art supplies, legos, and science kits just like I will for my nephew.

I'm going to hazard a guess you don't read much about fashion because cigarette pants have been popular in America, by that name, since the 50's. Cigarette pants aren't "straight", they are pretty much skin tight.
