Also, what about Lupita N'yongo? In many African cultures her body type is considered anything but sexy.. But in America, she's almost revered as this chocolate ethnic goddess! Oh that word.. Ethnic... Ha ha ha.. I think that the media sometimes trips itself over it's use of descriptors of women.

Wow, this author appears to have sour grapes. When non-white folks think about skinny white girls, we aren't thinking of slender. We're thinking of skinny stick figures (little to no hips, small breasts, small to no badunkadunk, lol) which were mostly white women on magazines and other media outlets. Many fashion designers' choice of models to exhibit their clothes were/are gay, and somehow it appears that they dictated or had a lot of influence on the beauty of women's body specifically white women. So the rest of you adopted this beauty standard. Other non-white men have always appreciated their women natural curves ( i.e. like the ones above) I was a stick figure when I was a teen and most of the guys who check me out where white men. Numerous times I was told I should be a model.

This is perhaps an unrelated topic but I feel the need to add it as well. Then, the porn industry exploited, it became a little more acceptable to a greater crowd, and the women in those porns didn't exactly look like the ones in magazines. Suddenly white women were skipping, hopping and rushing to plastic surgeons for breast enhancements in DROVES. So for sometime we had skinny (not slender) women with torpedoes, over sized breasts. Meanwhile non-white men remain very appreciative to their natural curvy women.

Now, the appreciation of natural curves of a women is becoming mainstream, and you're mad because it's being though of as "ethnic?" Where were you when the skinny stick figure was in the limelight? and the stick figure w/torpedoes breast were in the limelight?

Sour grapes!!

And yet, this idea of more voluptuous or curvier women being more the ideal among blacks and Latinos is something embraced and perpetuated by blacks and Latinos themselves. You see it all over the media in music videos, TV shows, etc. written and directed by blacks and Latinos... who do you think wrote "Baby Got Back"? And it's something you see (and hear) all the time in real life.

I saw a very brief clip from a documentary once, or just from the news perhaps, talking about a plastic surgeon who specializes in serving the Latino community. Real actual Latina patients in the clips talked about they felt they lacked the curves that they felt Latino men desired - this based on being part of a Latino community, interacting with Latinos, presumably watching Spanish-language television, not based entirely/primarily upon anything imposed upon them by white-created media discourses. And the doctor said that only once or twice has he ever been asked to do butt reduction surgery, confirming that there is a different conception of beauty, or different features that are preferred, among the Latino community. That is, among the Latino community themselves, and not simply in some imagined discursive conception of them in the white mind.

Culturally white? What is that supposed to mean? As another commenter said above, white people have ethnicities too - such as Welsh, German, Polish...

What sort of cultural background does your son reflect? Does your family go to a Greek church? Or celebrate Christmas in a Swedish manner? What kind of food do you cook that you consider to be your own people's food?

Ffffff and I'm still wondering why they call us "latinos" When the REAL LATINOS have way lighter skin than a majority of us (notice than I said "most", not "all", I'm a mexican mestiza and I'm actually really fairskinned), and their race is not originary from the Americas.
I actually couldn't avoid to laugh when a friend from Spain once said "...you the latinos" (I don't remember what the conversation was about, but I laughed because she refered to us with the word "latino").
She was like "w-what? :S", and I "n-nothing n_nU, sorry..."
REAL "LATINOS" ARE EUROPEANS:
French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanians.
I'm not saying that my ethnicity is not related to them, being a predomintly caucasic-looking mestiza myself, It's sure I have plenty of real "latin" blood in my veins, but I mean, in strict antropological terms, we could say that spanish, italians, french, portuguese and romanians are actually MORE "latinos" than me or the mayority of my compatriots who actually have important traces of amerindian acestry, which is mongoloid race, not caucasic like the REAL "latinos".
And by the way...
talking about those "not so 'white'" caucasics...
I still don't understand why some people think Italians, Spanish and Portuguese have to be tan skinned fffffff....
And why some people mistake "caucasic" by "white"...
It actually makes me... i don't know... how people stupidly assumes that arabs and indians (from India) are not caucasics just because they don't lack of as much melanine as usual caucasic Europeans...
...however... I would say that I actually have seen some pretty fairskinned arabs :I
Trying to embrace all the diversity of a race in just a few phisical characteristics seems stupid to me :I ...
Well... actually... in general, trying to classify the huge diversity of Human Beings in phisical characteristics and racial divisions, seems impossible to me...

I call bullshit. The issue here is a misguided corrective to so-called ideals of feminine beauty. There's not necessarily an equivalence being made between "ethnic" and "curvy." (E.g. the white actresses; how exactly do they fit in?) The stereotype is white, thin, and "pretty. These people are trying to correct all three at the same time, and it creates a muddled and confused message.
