The Plashing Vole sent in this commercial for Sanex deoderant, which helpfully informs us that some elements of our beauty regimens aren’t things we can do, or might want to do; no, they’re obligations we have to our bodies, because our body parts have a fundamental right to the benefits of Sanex (sorry for the embedding problems, not sure what’s up):
So next time you’re thinking about discussing how beauty and hygiene standards are socially constructed, and increasingly invented by companies eager to make money by insisting that every part of our bodies is deficient (hypotrichosis, anyone?) and in need of intervention, think again. Your armpits, and toes, and teeth, or nose pores might go to the UN to complain about the violation of their fundamental rights if you don’t consume the right product.
