Ashley A. sent in a charming short video that starts out with the words (in French) “Girls suck at video games,” which didn’t seem too promising, but turns out to be a humorous take on some of the challenges that face women who try to combine careers and family life. Her difficulties are turned into elements of a video game:
Girls suck at video games / Les filles sont nulles aux jeux vidéo from Stéphanie Mercier on Vimeo.
I take the “girls suck at video games” line to be a commentary on the way gender differences in pay, authority, and promotions in the workplace is often shrugged off as simply due to women being deficient in some way. The woman’s low final score? It’s just because women suck at playing video games! That’s why all the high scores — read, CEO positions, etc. — are held by men!
