Richard, you are confused. Please let me explain. The stat regards the amount that an American household averages every minute of every hour of every day. Your $5.76/hr is correct only if there are 24hrs in a work day. Since there are only 8hrs in a work day you can take your $5.76, multiply it by 3 which gives you $17.28. This is a more accurate depiction of what an American household makes in a “working hour”. Since most households have two working adults, you can divide my $17.28 by two which gives you $8.64. This amount seems more accurate considering the rate of minimum wage. Although I do not know if this statistic is accurate, I would certainly find it disappointing for you to disregard any statistic due to your lack of competence to the given information.

The map of India on google.co.in is different from the google.com website. Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are probably considered “disputed” (as per my inference) making those areas no longer part of our hard boundaries.

So what if Oprah is chosen, BIG WHOOOP! If this article had chosen someone else, some other retard will start this same conversation about why that person was chosen. Oprah and Bill Gates are both widely known, but those in developing countries would have most likely to have heard and known about Oprah rather than BG. Oprah was chosen and that’s it! OMG doe’s it ever end with any or some or all of you people , I’m 55 years old and I’m tired of hearing about black vs white and who did what to whom , ive never ever done anything prejudice to anyone no matter what color they are, ive been part of conversations that were race related and who hasnt? Yo would have to be from another planet , speaking of which if you were from another planet it wouldnt take long to be prejudice against someone or something Prejudice will always be around and there’s nothing you can do to eradicate it. Being prejudice is part of living it cant be helped . But acting on it can be helped .
so will everyone just quit talking about it it and accept it for what it is. Its nothing more than a human trait unless you act on it…so leave it alone

…you guys are over thinking this. I’m sure the only reason she was used is because of the red in her logo, that’s all. It matches the scheme of the entire poster. There is no secret agenda behind it. I’m sure its just that simple.

oops, and sorry for the double comment but I forgot to add that it might be weekly or yearly wages divided by number of hours per week, since that would be the only way to normalize for number of hours worked, which would definitely put the amount under what “minimum” wage per hour is.

I have a hard time believing any of the statistics on this since it says the average american household makes $5.76/hr, when the federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr….so where are they getting their statistics from….seems like if that one is fabricated I assume the rest are as well to make it sound interesting. Remember 90% of statistics are made up… ;)

Given the opportunity to choose between her “job” and a job in, say the Nike factory in Vietnam, I know which I’d choose. And that’s before anyone told me that the former has a payrate roughly 370,000 times higher than the latter (based on the figures above).

Hi, I’m not from around India and my geography in general is terrible, so I’m probably missing something very obvious here, but I can’t figure out what is wrong with the map of India in the OP? I looked at the map you link, and a few other maps of India (since it’s hard to see the borders at a glance in the Google Maps version), but I just can’t see it.
