Archives researcher extraordinaire Larry from the Daily Mirror sent me this clipping from the November 6, 1909 issue of the L.A. Times:

Notice that though the ban said “no student,” the students who apparently are confused by it, and those interviewed about the ban, were female–one of them a “peach” at that. While presumably men were also flirting with women, given gender norms at the time, I suspect it was women’s behavior that was the real source of concern.
And contrary to the partial headline we see there at the bottom, wikipedia tells me that the nebular hypothesis is, in fact, quite popular in scientific circles, being the most widely-accepted explanation for the formation of the solar system and all.
