Prolific sender-inner Larry Harnisch, of The Daily Mirror, sent in this 1969 “Dennis the Menace” cartoon:

Great example of the view that masculinity means avoiding anything related to girls/women or femininity.

I tried to find some info on when queen-size beds became common in the U.S. to see if maybe they were sort of new in 1969 and this might be partly laughing at the idea that it was a newfangled item, but I couldn’t find anything.

UPDATE: Commenter crshark says,

Isn’t it obvious that Dennis the 5 year old child is the one who thinks there’s some contradiction with a male sleeping in a Queen sized bed and the adult male is telling him, no, there’s not.  So if there’s any comment at all to this cartoon, it’s that the view that masculinity means avoiding anything related to girls/women is a childish, immature view?

Of course, it’s also possible the dad is feeling defensive about the idea that his kid would think he’s being a sissy.
