If you want to engage men with the Green movement then focus on mens love of the outdoors and how pollution threatens this. Talk about camping, fishing and mountaineering. Thats they way to do it!!

The ends do not justify the means. The value and dignity of women is far more important than the environment. Also it won't be effective as the men will be focusing on the sexy girls, rather than the cause. Men who are sympathetic to green causes may also find it to be condescending to men.

This is more an example of the science is junk and the Climate Change is a hoax, so use sex instead of facts.

If their cause was so sound and completely concrete factually...they wouldn't need T & A to sell it.

Or they don't feel that wearing a swim suit is sexualizing themselves. It's the "male gaze" and objectification in the mind of the perceiver that turns a person's body into something sexual.

Yes, I have to admit that by the way Jackie described the website I expected a lot worse.

I think all the tequila references in Jessica's bio is just meant to make us, the readers, think that she is a "normal cool girl" who likes to party and have fun... AND is concerned about the environment.

The website does include information on saving energy and recycling. I think their intentions are good...

The problem really is how these morning shows / news programs trivialized these women and their cause. It's just a complete dumbing down of everything and I think it's quite patronizing to their viewers.

Hey Jackie...what are you seeing exactly?

Admittedly, I'm not watching the vids for bandwidth reasons, but I'm not seeing much misogyny in the text.

The 'AGG''s profile is...well, confusing. She starts off with what sounds like a personal ad, then says "Of course, none of the above is true. But congratulations, at least you have basic reading skills. So put some of that to use and check the other features on our site. You might learn something. " but then implies none of that is true either. Which leaves her basically appearing to stand for nothing. Which, for an advocate, is monumentally stupid, but hardly misogynistic.

As for the "dumb tequila blonde" That's your term for her, not theirs, so why are you putting quotes around it? The profile says she likes tequila and suggests, in a non-serious way, that she has only a 'few brain cells left'. I don't think we're meant to read that she's dumb. And putting that together with her hair colour? That's your stereotyping, Jackie, not theirs.

And come on - “intern who does things the rest of us dont want to do” - are you seriously suggesting with your 'uggh' that there's a sexual connotation to that? That's pretty much the definition of an intern's role.

Look, I have questions about the effectiveness of their tactic of using sex to get attention towards their cause. However, I'm dismayed by your reaction to this particular web-page. I think your bar for "appalling" is a bit low.

I just don't see misogyny (hatred of women) there. Because AGG gives Jessica (the women have names, Jackie, despite your desire to simply label them) some stick in wirting her profile, does that automatically make it misogyny because she's a woman? Could it not be simply one person giving a friend and co-worker some hassle in a spirit of fun?

Patriarchal standards? What are you specifically talking about? I'm sorry, I'm perfectly happy for you to show me what I'm not seeing, but give me examples.

wow, has anyone actually looked at their website? it's pretty bad. the "who we are" section is especially appalling--full of woman-endorsed misogyny and patriarchal standards and all that fun stuff...have a look, if you dare:
http://www.angrygreengirl.com/who-we-are
take a wild guess who the audience is...
what's curious, though, is how that could alienate the very people they seek to "enlighten"...if their tactic is to make men think they'll sleep with them, anyway (well, i guess that's what the "dumb tequila blonde" and "intern who does things the rest of us dont want to do" is for. Uggh).

I was also pretty annoyed by the way the tv reporter and the host were treating this woman and her cause- but I think that proves more how absolutely crap news programs are. I've seen enough examples on Soc Images to know that.

And as many of you have already said, the chances of people listening to what this "girl" says are pretty slim.

BUT... I did think that possibly associating "hot girls" with hybrid and environmentally friendly cars might make a bit of sense. I mean, "hot girls" have been associated with cars for ages.

http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=hot+car+girls&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&aq=f&oq=

If hot girls sell Mustangs, why can't they sell hybrids too?

Of course, this doesn't mean that it's right to use hot girls to sell any kind of car. I'm just saying that Angry Green Girl might prescribe to the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mantra.
