Wow, that's really horrible of you. The weight and appearance of a person is probably the one of the most insignificant of human characteristics. While some of those 'plus sized' women probably are overweight, and deal with health problems because of it, saying you could "puke" is just awful. These are HUMAN BEINGS. You are a human being. A weight issue is ONE tiny trait -- how many issues do you have? Personal, little flaws? You're lucky they're not immediately apparent for anyone to see and criticize upon glance. These woman have decided to be empowered, and that's amazing. I agree that there is an improper disparity in the media still, in that we see either size 00 or 14/16. What we need to be seeing are the size 8's and 10's, 12's, like the first woman pictured. Anyway, because body types/proportion/weight distribution is so vastly different from woman to woman, even size can only convey so much about a woman's health.

BUT THE WAY YOU TREAT THESE WOMEN, AND SPEAK OF THESE WOMEN, YOU CAN CONTROL. It was really appalling and saddening for me to read your post and the language you used. I will always advocate health--but I'd argue that mental and emotional health is FAR more important than physical health (though yes, they tend to come hand-in-hand). But those women will always be better than you, until you stop criticizing so viciously.

That's because "most women" ARE fat. There are very few women out there who aren't fat or at least a little bit overweight.
And these women are definitely FAT.
I mean, look at those tighs, hips and everything... I could puke right away when i see this.

I know other people have called you out already, but it's completely ridiculous to say thin women can't have boobs. I'm a size 0 or 00 and I have a large C. Used to be a D before I worked out a lot. Just how I was made...might not be "normal", but who's normal anyway?

I think a better sociological question is, "Why are we so obsessed with health in the first place? And why do we SO love to mask normative images under the rubric of health?"

BMI is the worst measure of health and fitness it has no meaning at all and leads to stupid conclusions about a person's size. A person who is 20 lbs overweight who stays that way throughout there life is much healthier than someone who gains and loses that weight.

These women are not FAT!!! They have the typical size of most women. The women in the magazines usually are too skinny and being too skinny and or too fat both have health issues to consider... I would like to see the person that is calling the women in these pictures fat...

Hmm. I read through this discussion (it did, I admit, take some time)! And while I find Modern Demagogue well read, and in his way somewhat eloquent, I still do not agree with his stance. If he finds comparatively thin, large breasted women (of which I am one) beautiful, than more power to him. However, that is not the objective-be all or end all, definition of beautiful. If beauty can even be quantified, I feel the best way to go about doing so would be to find what the largest percent of the population considers attractive. And studies show that that is the woman above, a "size 12". (I am putting that into quotes due to Eliza Gaugers comment on photoshopping). Though everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is the preference of the masses. And, on a personal note, would you really want to be intimate with an anorexic? All those bones.....

hi. First, I don't even know if anyone will read this, but here it goes . . . Weight has been, and will always be, an issue in North America. It goes without saying that currently the american ideal is: flats abs, thin legs, and toned arms. It also goes without saying, that the reality is exactly the opposite: cellulite, obesity, excessive fat, and overall unhealthy people. Why is the reality so far from the ideal? One does not have to obsessively workout or starve themselves to be thin and healthy. All one needs to do is develop good habits and gradually build their health. One doesn't have to fit the ideal to be beautiful and happy!

damn all y'all need to calm down. the woman is beautiful. she may have a little pooch and curvaceous thighs. In a way i look like her. when i saw this picture i thought "so there's other women like me? I'm not in a world where the only woman are the ones who wear a size 5 and smaller?" It makes me feel good that not everyone is "perfect". it wouldn't hurt her to exercise, this does not promote unhealthiness but it promotes a healthier frame of mind for women. women have been used as objects of lust for so long....skinny has been used for so long. Everyone has low self esteem. Even the skinny girls. They wish they had more booty, more breast even wish they had more meat in general. Bigger women wish they were toner, skinnier so they can fit into what our society calls beautiful. being so skinny you can see your hips jutting out or count each rib isn't beautiful to me. seeing a girl who's a size 9 is beautiful. a woman in a size 10 or up is beautiful if she has the right curves. I'm sure shes fully aware of her health problems if she doesn't trim down, this is about being comfortable in your skin and y'all are arguing about if shes unhealthy or not. shame on you. Criticizing her stomach saying her thighs are too big. She's a woman. C'mon! Really? Are you gonna tell me you look better than her?
