Somehow, that "explanation" only works if this is, y'know, Art, meant for display somewhere. Not so much when it's being sold online in like, infant sizes. I'd imagine that the "cultural critique" is less than apparent when it's actually being worn by a 4-month-old. Context, amirite? ____ Okay, this is hilarious. I just clicked the link, wondering how much the shirt was being sold for. Here's what it says: "Previously a mere piece of merchandise at £16. Now a piece of art at £516." LOL. 2. That!

Believe it or not, there is (apparently) an explanation for this. ParentDish did an article on it, and here’s what the designer of this “masterpiece” said about it:

“The Nipple Tassel t-shirt was designed as a response to my own distaste at seeing mini versions of sexy clothes on young children,” she wrote. “Five-year-olds wearing slashed mini skirts and boob tubes, little thumb-sucking Britneys.

“There is nothing very sexy about a baggy, lap neck, long sleeved t- shirt for a 6-month-old. So by embellishing this style of garment with printed nipple tassels, the result is not that the baby becomes sexualized by the tassels, but that the tassels are made benign and silly by the baby. In fact the more inert, innocent and unaware the infant is, the more ludicrous the contrast becomes.”

From her statement, it sounds more like she’s poking fun at the world of Child Sexualization though clothing than imitating it.

Wrong on so many levels. It’s definitely the best parenting to equate your child with burlesque. Is that who even wears these? I’m sure there are women of all occupations and ages who have worn nipples tassels, just not many I know. Either way, it seems pretty irresponsible to imply to anyone who sees this that your child IS sexual and can be treated as such. I’m not puritan.. or maybe I am?.. but I just don’t think I would want to sexualize my child for a laugh, or to be “cute”.

I’d think that a website called “Twisted Twee” would specialise in bad or suspicious taste infant clothes, so no surprises here other than an initial “eek!”.

They also have “equal opportunity babygrows“. Isn’t it cute? XD
