Wow. The origins of every food and body related issue I've ever had summed up in a single clip.

Bonus Points: The first time I've agreed with someone on Fox News.

*shudder*

Well according to Michael Karolchyk, a big percent of america's jobs that influence people should only be done by the epitome of the ideal spokesperson. Only Italian people are allowed to work at pizza restaurants and what about politicians? They're supposed to show America what we can accomplish when we come together but most of the time are corrupt and motivated by money. Unless Michael Karolchyk, the stereotype and flaw police, is going to go around and find a person for each kind of job that anyone who isn't up to the high standards and lives the title of the job perfectly "can't work," he can shove his no chubbies tee shirt where the sun don't shine before someone wiser does.

Michael Karolchyk deliberately orchestrates negative publicity its been known for a while that he actively employs people to infiltrate fat acceptance groups to get them to protest his gym, thereby making him the enemy of the overwieght. His piece as a talking head here is purely to get negative publicity, and it works (not his hammed up bullet proof vest claim). Of course he could just run a successful gym and get good attention, but this is easier. What's interesting still though is that Cavuto still has him on as a guest even though its documented that his persona and opinions are a fictious marketing gimmick.

The reality here is that Fox/Cavuto had already set the agenda, and just pulled this guy out of the crowd to voice the opinion that they needed to run the story as if someone else were saying it.

"The “50 to 60 pounds” determination that people are making is based on a mathematically faulty and historically-dependent, ever-changing scale that has little to nothing to do with health."

Honestly I don't even think it's based on BMI, more like a random number pulled out of somebody's ass. I read one article that stated that her BMI was between 30 and 40. At my height that's a big freaking difference, about 65 pounds! How could you not tell the difference?

A little off topic, but does it strike anyone else as weird that the Office of the Surgeon General apparently doesn't have cameras that can take color photographs? (based on the link to previous SGs in the post)

Fox News is just disgusting. One should study why anyone would even watch it. Maybe by studying the reasons why one would do it, one could design policies to make the population slightly more educated.

I think the point of this is, what if the surgeon general were a smoker? Wouldn't that be a bad example to set for the rest of the country.

The appearance of hypocrisy nullifies an argument in the ears of those who hear it. An overweight person is not going to be taken seriously when arguing the dangers of obesity.

This guest reminds me of my brother, who shares the same prejudices he does, but while the guest is prejudiced, he still has a point.

"step up to be the surgeon general or the FEMALE"?

Aargh! That misogynist clearly just thrives on the controversy and attention he gets from saying stuff like this, it's sad the news gives him a legitimate spot to voice his pathetic insults just in the name of being more entertaining and shocking than an actual doctor...

This was seriously on the air????

And you KNOW that a man wouldn't get the same kind of treatment exactly because of what the guest said... that for a woman, an extra 50 pounds is overweight, but for a man, 100. A man has to carry around 100 extra pounds of weight to be considered overweight, but a woman not even close? Sick.

The host, Neil Cavuto, has multiple sclerosis so its likely that some of his puffiness is do to his medication. Also, reporters and hosts who are personally challenged are always taught to steer the conversation back to the primary subject.

Overweight? She looks like a normal middle aged woman to me. Actually, she looks younger than her 53 years; I would have guessed she was around 45, at a glance.

Lazy? I think her achievements might state otherwise

@ Kate and Luey: we don't know whether losing fifty pounds would be good or bad for Dr. Benjamin. But I would agree with Kate: if Benjamin is naturally heavy, then losing a large amount of weight might be harmful for her.

I am a proud "chubby," and I've noticed that my periods tend to become irregular when my body weight dips below the middle of the "normal" zone--even when I'm at a weight that could be perfectly healthy for someone else of my height.
