" But boys and men are largely discouraged from doing feminine things, because this will often get boys and men ostracized or attacked. "

In the animal kingdom, in most pack or group animals, the WEAK males are either driven off or killed, makes me think, that a man wearing or appearing feminine is seen as a sign off weakness.

I love Kasmeneo fashion sense even the rather bold moves with those stripped tights (not a lot of humans can pull those off). What the images convey to me are about clothing-as-personality, style and comfort first as opposed to having it be all about gender statements. As a woman with an heavily curved latin figure I get lazy and rely fall back on clothing styles that focus on sexuality... I am utterly inspired by this post to stretch how I view my own clothing.

I do appreciate the colourful style and the spirit of freedom from the obsolete masculine role as a warrior and tough guy. However, I would recommend going further and freeing the feet from still heavy rag-like socks or knee socks (or even tights) and introducing instead the transparent stockings or tights (without the central gusset) together with the absolutely full range of shoe models. Just the way I do - with full freedom that now is enjoyed by females only.

Good luck!

Incorrect beliefs abound. To set the record straight---skirts are, like trousers, "human," not sex specific attire. Consider masculine Roman soldiers and today's Greek Evzones. "Transgender," "transvestite" and "crossdresser" apply only to women in athletic supporters; women in wide underwear; women wearing fake beards and mustaches for other than comedy; men in bras and bra forms; men in narrow tailored underwear; and anyone wanting sex change surgery. But skirts, pleats, ruffles, bright colors, frilly styles per se, as female only? Absolutely not! See the English Beefeater guards. See the medieval Vatican Swiss guards. See today's Bhutanese dancers. See Egyptian Dervishes on You Tube. Forget about psychiatry---it's wrong, wrong, and wrong, and that's all it can ever be, is wrong---and VERY DANGEROUS to all civil liberties. What you wear is not a "disorder," it's self determination. Ask any skirted Fijian policeman. Pants are a horseback riding invention and an adaptation to cold climates---not "male."

Interesting article!

I guess it's a testament to how much time I spend around crossplayers (cosplayers who choose to cosplay those of the opposite sex) that I didn't feel at all disturbed looking at those photos. I spent more time going "Where did he find those shoes? They're cute!" or "I like that jacket, I want that jacket!"

Kasmeneo rocks, he's got great fashion sense and many kudos to him for sharing these outfits!! :)

"If I recall correctly, the vast majority of cross-dressers are straight."
Actually, I've read that's a myth pioneered by the heterosexual majority of crossdressers, who wanted to seperate themselves from homosexuals and transsexuals because both were seen as exceptionally deviant and disgusting at that time. So queers [homosexual men who dressed femininely or female, and trans-women who were changing their genders] were prominently ousted from the larger circles of crossdressers/fetishists so they would appear "normal"; aka no one would question their sexuality or accuse them of a "sex-change".
It's been sustained by the medical and fetish communities as the gays moved away from "acting femme" and the transsexuals moved away/were forced away from associating with LGB people and fetish communities.

"(*I would be interested in knowing the ratio of occurances of sexual violence enacted against gender-queer female-bodied ppl vs male-bodied)."
I'm curious, too, but I think that masculine-appearing female-bodied people often underreport such things much like men do.
GPAC has done a report on crimes against gender-variant persons, though: http://www.gpac.org/50under30/
I also wouldn't be surprised if internalized sexism plays a part in underreporting as well; in other words, masculine-appearing female-bodied women/men are made to believe they are unfit and unsexy "women", therefore their rapists either /couldn't/ exist or they should be grateful that someone could "want" them for sex.

I admit, I tend to prefer his photos where he seems to be dressing more like men of past times: sort of dapper dandyish in a way. Though that's a style I'm very fond of, and I've been bemoaning for years now how women's wear often adopts men's past fashions/trends, while men's wear gets none of these revivals. I've considered swooping into the women's section more than once...but I fear that if I did I'd get people in my face about how I've "finally decided I'm not a man" just because they equate wearing 'womans' clothes as /being/ a woman, if the wearer is female-bodied.
So I guess I'm jealous of his moxie. :)
