This AirFrance ad is, no doubt, creative. Apparently the flights are so convenient and affordable that you can have families in two countries!
How do you feel about the way it makes light of not just cheating on your wife and child, but secretly having two families? (Way to spread your seed!) It is setting up deception of women as a goal? Or is it all in good fun?
It reminds me of these ads for a private jet service.
NEW: Claire T. sent in a link to a commercial for the Cool Capitals tourism campaign, which takes the form of a fake support page for a woman named Francine who supposedly had husbands in five different European cities. The commercial plays into the idea of the insatiable woman who just can’t get enough, whether it’s sex, travel, or money:
Notice Francine is described as the “first known female polygamist.” This might be true if by “polygamy” they meant polygyny–having more than one female spouse at a time–given how few countries allow lesbians to marry, it would indeed be noteworthy to find a woman with wives in five different nations. But in fact “polygamy” means having more than one spouse at a time, including both polygyny and polyandry, which is having more than one male spouse at a time. And while polyandry is less common than polygyny, it certainly exists, most commonly in areas with limited resources where slow population growth is essential for survival, including some areas of the Himalayas. And regardless of all that, I’m willing to be there have been some known European female polygamists at some time or another.
Thanks, Claire!
