I agree. Taken as a whole, Obama’s features look more Khoisan (like this San guy on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:San_tribesman.jpg) to me than anything else, and his nose (shared with his grandfather) and hair look strongly Mediterranean and Semitic.

Except for the skin tone (which barely cuts it) I’ve never seen anything strongly non-Khoisan African about Obama’s features (unless you’re counting Mediterranean Africa).

What are “white” or “black” features? I’m pretty willing to bet, if you saw me, you wouldn’t read me as having any “Native American features”, but I am indeed part Native American… although I did have someone once claim to see my “Jewish” features (I’m not Jewish at all). If you’re making this call after you know the person’s background, chances are you’re seeing what you expect to see.

Um…but the students could have said “his ha and skin make him look black,” without commenting on his ears, lips, eyes, or facial features. The point is that when the students were asked what made Obama “look black,” they focused on features that aren’t stereotypically black.
