As a black woman, I find Whoopi's attempt at justifying the use of the word absolutely ridiculous. Elisabeth's right (never thought I'd say that). We DON'T live in separate worlds. And we shouldn't have to teach our children "It's not okay for you to say this, but it's okay for someone else to." There's no such thing as "taking back" an insult. It's not going to disappear off our radar until people black and white recognize it for the profanity it is.

Fantastic clip. Love the way the second woman on the right gets all defensive about "the N word". Why is it of such concern to people of privilege that 'certain words can be used and others can not'?

Awesome. Not sure I agree that privileging an oppressed group by allowing them to use words that the dominant group can't is a good way to make up for the oppression, but neither am I a member of an oppressed group.

Off topic, but why aren't there any shows that involve discussion or debate instead of a bunch of people all talking over each other and interrupting? It makes things much more contentious and harder to follow.
