oops - how did I get on this page! I'm totally disgusted! Oh that's right, I clicked on the link, didn't I?

kaleb: seems as though you're a bit uptight, if not self-righteous. I don't think that gov't funding should pay for this kind of stuff, but I don't think it's right to group all advertisers/marketers into one evil group, either. As a skeptic, I have a natural inclination to be cynical when it comes to advertising. However, you have to expect people to use SOMETHING to communicate their ideas, messages, products, or agenda. Advertising is a proven forum for informing or reminding people about those things. So if you're truly against business, just quit your job and join a hippie commune.

Advertising is a pool for bunglers, who want to be admired from the vulgar.
They are completely vain, they want to be refined or ingenious, but they are only obtrusive and nasty, unable to keep their distance - it is the same here in Germany.

They think "I'm clever, I make money with my masturbation phantasies!
I act the Sex-Guru for the Vulgar, so women HAVE to accept me."

They get their inspiration from comfort-station graffities or from the red-light-district.

They are soooo clear....

Yeah, too bad these are so hetero. I still love them, though, and I wish we could have ads like this in the US. I just set the upper image as my desktop background.

I prefer them a lot to those HIV aweareness posters where sex is associated with violence to emphasize why protection is needed (the penis as a weapon, revolver, etc). *Those* suggest that you have to warp sex into a horror scenario to understand why you have to act responible, something that is being done in almost all (Western) cultures far too much. This is by far more empathic and, despite the hetero normativeness (maybe a few more posters should be designed?) not the usual "sex is actually evil" standard.

"Though not, you might note, of the same sex."

I do notice two pair of lips almost (French?) kissing each in the second image. Or am I just imagining? :P

Do the French really need government to tell them that sex is sexy? If so, that is down right sad.

In the US, posters like this would appear and be appropriately mocked.

Personally, I'm tired of AIDS awareness. If you don't know how to protect yourself by now, then maybe sex isn't for you....

Americans seem to have a preoccupation with physical safety when it comes to sex, but we completly overlook the emotional aspects of sexual relationships. A survey asked teenagers what they wanted out of "sex education," and many wished they learned about communication and relationships, rather than the clinical physical side of things.

I agree with the above, the posters are AWESOME! I would love to have one for my office.

They're definitely interesting ads. I seem as a combination of the 3 (4, if you add in "awesome"). If these appeared in the States though...I can only imagine the uproar even if the ads are promoting safer sex.

I agree with Breck. These are really awesome. But it also depends on gender. I don't think the second one is all that different from the "Your dad slept around" ads we've seen. On the other hand, giving women permission to explore their sexuality without slotting them into the "whore" category is something I'm not used to seeing very often.

I did notice that the woman ad had some tongues in it, though. Tongues aren't gendered...

You forgot a choice in your title. It should read:

...Art, Obscenity, Public Health, or TOTALLY AWESOME!!1! ?

*ahem*

Sorry for the outburst, but those are delightful and you really just made my morning. They're like something from an HIV-conscious Heavy Metal magazine.

So, yeah. They sure are hetero-normative, though.
