Primate in Chief: A Guide to Racist Barack Obama Monkey Photoshops
Anyone who has been on the real Internet knows that the Obama-as-ape Photoshop actually predates the mainstream talk about his birth certificate. How prevalent is it? Very. Here's a collection of artwork depicting the nation's first-ever African American president as a primate, which builds on a long history of various racist Obama caricatures.
See the photo of Barack Obama Money on http://www.imageshumor.com/political/p1259-barack-obama-monkey-humor-the-president-of-the-united-stateshumor.html
A perfect example of the argument in action is the post accompanying the above "Primate in Chief" image. It's the kind of reasoning commonly employed in the online political debat.

Its a sock monkey. U dont see a kid with a sock monkey and go that kids racist becuz hes holding a sock monkey?

The teady bear-Teddy Roosevelt, was made to resemble him and his nick name teddy, u dont go freaking out becuz a kid has a gaint teady thats Huge and go oh well ppl are making fun of roosevelt becuz he was hefty

Would u have freaked out if u saw this next to other sock monkeys or Maybe teady bear that looked Like roosevelt?

U see it how u see it, but honestly i think everyones freaking out over nothing but a doll.

Might we go into text of what the doll is gonna go through, A kid gets it as a toy let it be any race gender or age, its gonna cuddle it, love it, perhaps sleep with it.Clearly the kid loves oboma, now whats so racist after that?Nothing , its jsut another soft plush toy sold for ppl to buy and enjoy.

Im Japanese, lets go down this road a bit and enlighten a bit, I see a panda stuffed animal and i see it with one of the rice patty hats that are make of grass weaved. OMG its a panda with a sun hat >< angry rage. No thats not what u see.

the shirt ya thats a bit much, but dont complain about the doll being obama when u see so many other toys that are just as racist and single this out till you think about ALL of them.

thats my bit

For those of you that missed the comment:

"Black people will never understand why this is so funny… it looks just like him… what a hoot."

and

"Get over it… so what if you all look like monkeys… it how you act that counts… you know, like monkeys…"

Case in point. End scene.

I would not see this as offensive if I saw it in a shop. I have heard of the monkey thing but those old science sketches are so discordant with a little sock monkey that I would certainly not have made the connection. What is that phrase about ignoring racism being a "benefit" of privilege?
