Why is a “real man” in the last one defined as a virgin? If a woman is empowered through a strong sense of her own sexuality, why is a man not? I think it speaks about the “men are ruled by their sexuality, and can’t keep it in their pants”-stereotype, which is just as much a stereotype as the “If a woman is not a virgin upon marriage she is a slut”.

Speaks volumes about the ingrown-ness of some of the stereotypes imbedded in us, that even in a anti-stereostype/sexism ad, a sexist stereotype creeps in.

I agree with yummytummy, I mean, what’s the point of going outside the original idea and suggest that your mom’s first was another mom?

Also, as the pendulum swings, this is just another exaggeration. I know it is supposed to mock the other ads, which I really liked, and they are more appealing. But, the only one that really makes a positive apportation is the last one.

while i can kindof see the mom ads selling power, i think the last two really point out the exclusive view of masculinity used in advertising….the only thing i really don’t like is that the new “your mom was not your dad’s first” is much more graphic than the original. it kind of shows homosexuality as something pornographic, fetishy and exclusively erotic–the parody would have been more effective if it had, like the original, showed men flirting and holding hands and maybe one picture of men kissing.

Those are fun ads, but why couldn’t my mom have been a Canadian Club drinker? Nothing wrong with Canadian Club…
