Bill, I didn’t assume that either the scorpion or the spider were meant to stand in for black bodies. I think you jumped to that conclusion. The scorpion especially has for a long time been a signifier of HIV positivity (tattoos, etc). There might be something there if we’re considering the color of the arachnids–whether blackness is supposed to make the representation somehow “worse” (reminds me of Audre Lorde’s “black roach on your pillow”)–but I think it’s definitely referring to “poison-carriers,” HIV+ bodies (which is problematic in its own way).

Total bullshit on these ads, it’s racist to compare blacks to scorpions and spiders. Trying to figure out why the white guy put a gun on his crotch, that one is just weird, but the other two are racists. Besides you don’t get stds from white people. What the hell were they thinking with that last one. But the first two are totally racist.
