Full disclosure: I am the partner that received the Hoops and Yoyo birthday card.
When I received the card, I told David that I thought it might make an interesting cyborgology post, vis a vis computer mediated human interaction and rejuvenating somewhat outdated corporate products, like Hallmark greeting cards, using cheap technological innovation. I never imagined that the characters had names, much less entire Internet-based personalities.
I have nothing to say about this in terms of social theory… but it sure is interesting… and strange… like a pastiche who’s referent is hiding in plain sight, waiting for its YouTube characters to be found by the card recipient. The interactivity of it has an entire level that I never would have found without David’s searching. To me, it was just a funny card.
